Dancer, choreographer, video artist, and beloved ADF School faculty member Jillian Peña was hit by a car on August 11th, 2008 while walking in a crosswalk in Brooklyn, New York.
Jillian was admitted to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan in critical condition, and underwent multiple emergency surgeries to manage several hematomas in her brain. She is gradually emerging from a coma.

Although Jillian is definitely on the road to recovery, that road will likely be considerably long. The medical costs will be staggering. Like many artists and working people in this country, Jillian does not have health insurance. While Jillian's medical expenses mount, Jillian's parents are experiencing financial hardship as a result of their indefinite relocation to New York from their home in New Mexico.
Jillian's friends and colleagues have established a paypal account in order to receive monetary donations that may alleviate the financial difficulty the Peñas are experiencing at this time. Please consider making a donation on Jillian's behalf. ANY amount, any number of times that you can give it, will be invaluable for her and for her family. Your donation will have an immediate impact. No donation is too small or too large.
Jillian is deeply committed to the School of the American Dance Festival. Jillian's initial affiliation with the ADF School was as a scholarship student in 2001. Throughout six subsequent summers, Jillian returned to ADF as a Bessie Schoenberg scholar, staff member, teacher's assistant, and eventually faculty member. One of the first things Jillian jotted down as she began to write during her third week of rehabilitation was that she'd be at ADF in June.
Let's help get her there. Please consider making a donation on behalf of Jillian and her family today.
