Dance Composition with Jessica Hudson:
Choreography is something that we all have the capability to make – beginners and professionals, dancers and non-dancers. We each have a unique choreographic voice that just needs some structures and some inspiration. In this class we will learn to think like choreographers to create solo and group dances. We will be inspired by looking at excerpts of classic and established modern dance and dance-theatre choreographers including Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, Alvin Ailey and Bill T Jones. Using the choreographic elements (body, energy, space, and time) we will explore the idea of a stage picture so that we can make spatial choices based on audience/performer relationship.
Site-specific dance moves away from the confines of a proscenium stage. Our surroundings (nature and infrastructure) shape our decisions as movers, makers and thinkers, emphasizing the environment we inhabit. How we place ourselves in alternative landscapes informs our responses, creating atmosphere for investigation and questions that send bodies into motion.
Ballet with Marsha Thomas:
Strength, flexibility, and focus are not the only benefits of this introductory ballet class. Students will be introduced to classical ballet technique and vocabulary with an emphasis on confidence and enjoyment.
