About the instructor: Andrea was introduced to Zena Rommett Floor-Barre® while on tour with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance company in the 1990s. Lonne Moreton, the rehearsal director at the time, gave Floor-Barre® for the company warm-up. “I was resistant at first because Bill’s choreography was so rigorous. However, I was surprised at how prepared I felt to go on stage in dynamic and demanding work. When we returned home from various tours, my body was strong and centered rather than injured and in pain. I continued to seek out Floor-Barre® classes in NYC and now, many years later and living in Durham, NC, I continue Floor-Barre® as part of my personal training. I have been able to recover from and rehabilitate injuries and sustain my dancing body. I plan to continue dancing with spirit and joy. Floor-Barre® has had a great impact on the longevity of my teaching and dancing and I want to share that with other dancers, movement artists and my community. Thank you Zena, Camille and all the mentors. The certification process renewed my passion for dancing and teaching and connected me to an international “family” centered in the beautiful legacy in caring for our bodies with Floor-Barre®.” Andrea is Associate Professor in the Duke University Dance Program and Artistic Director of SOULOWORKS/Andrea E. Woods & Dancers.
