2010 Season BrochureDear Friends,

We invite you to join us for six and a half weeks of unforgettable dance this summer including 8 ADF-Commissioned World Premieres, 1 US Premiere, 2 Reconstructions, and 5 ADF Company Debuts! The 2010 ADF Season, What is Dance Theater?, will explore the influences that theater has had on modern dance and the inspiration the art form has had on choreographers’ own artistic expression through performances and panel discussions. Many of the choreographers represented this season – Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, Martha Clarke, Shen Wei, Pilobolus, Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak, Mark Dendy, and Rosie Herrera – have all created works known for dipping a toe in both theater and dance, and then back again, all with great success.

We’ll also celebrate significant milestones this summer including Paul Taylor’s 80th birthday and the 10th anniversary of the founding of Shen Wei’s Company at the 2000 ADF. Both Paul Taylor Dance Company and Shen Wei Dance Arts will present ADF-commissioned World Premieres and present two different programs this summer. ADF patrons who purchase a ticket to Program A will receive 50% off tickets to Program B!

We will open our 33rd season in Durham with the city’s very own African American Dance Ensemble. In addition, companies from around the world will descend on Durham to present complete theatrical experiences. Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company (Argentina) will wow audiences with tango in the air, Inbal Pinto and Avshalom Pollak Dance Company (Israel) will present its 1999 hit Oyster, and RUBBERBANDance Group (Canada) will share what happens when explosive hip-hop and contemporary dance collide. Also, the late Jerome Robbins’ legendary West Side Story Suite and the late Merce Cunningham’s Inlets 2 will share a Past/Forward program with an ADF-commissioned World Premiere by Russian choreographer Tatiana Baganova, all set on ADF dancers.

Mark your calendars NOW and consider SUBSCRIBING to the ADF this summer so you can experience more for much less!
