Every summer, the Festival hosts over 40 performances, 440 students, and 50 faculty members, establishing a creative laboratory in the heart of Durham. The 2009 season, our first in the beautiful new Durham Performing Arts Center, will explore the influences ballet and modern dance have had on one another. We are excited to commission world premieres from Festival favorites Shen Wei, Emmanuel Gat, Pilobolus (again working with an outside collaborator), and Faye Driscoll. The season will also feature a mini-festival of work by Israeli choreographers, reconstructed works by Laura Dean and Twlya Tharp, and several site-specific, community-based projects choreographed by Mark Dendy that will be free and open to the public.
