Arts Administration and Production Intern Alumni

“I think that the most beneficial experience as an intern, is simply getting to be in the festival environment where dance is supported and nurtured. It is an organization that serves dance artists and audiences of all ages and calibers, and I find that super significant in learning the inner-workings of the dance, arts administration field.”—Anna Canova, School Ops Intern 2018

My specific internship was definitely a valuable experience. I came to ADF knowing that I would gain skills and knowledge about arts administration, but I found myself learning about bigger life lessons. There were many times that I had to deal with difficult people, creatively think to find solutions to seemingly impossible obstacles, and use my judgment in situations that were my responsibility. While this is all valuable to an arts administration field, it applies to all careers and settings.—Megan Burgess, Schedule & Faculty Intern 2018

Doing the actual work and being trusted to contribute my work/skills to the festival. Getting paid, going to performances, and taking a class was also beneficial because it slightly balanced out the work that we had to put in. having bosses that are professionals in the field with lots of experience also allowed me to learn a lot and get valuable information just by talking to them and working with them.—Sarah Stearn, Archives Intern 2018
