Contact Improvisation: Foundational Practices. Deep Listening. w/ Ray Schwartz & Cinthia Pérez Navarro

This class explores the foundational practices of Contact Improvisation (CI), emphasizing kinesthetic awareness, proprioception, and creative responsiveness to unpredictability. Honoring CI’s 47-year history, we’ll reflect on its multicultural evolution and its potential to inspire social and political awareness. Special focus will be given to the duet form, where deep listening supports dynamic choice-making and movement proposals. Through warm-ups, scores, and principles like weight sharing, momentum, and ensemble practices, students will develop strategies for responsive, creative dancing. This class bridges tradition and contemporary relevance, offering a reflective, physical journey into CI’s enduring impact.
