Middle Child Dance Theatre Camp
(ages 9–12 & 13–17)
with Middle Child Dance Theatre
Monday, July 14–Friday, July 18
About the Camp
Middle Child Dance Theatre is an NYC-based dance company under the direction of Heather Dutton. Our work is an ongoing practice of play in many forms and is supported by theatrical and comedic devices. We walk the line between grief and humor as we attempt to capture relatable experiences in their entirety, with an emphasis on uplifting queer stories and artists. Dutton’s work has been presented throughout New York at venues including Here Arts Center, Flushing Town Hall, Dixon Place, Arts on Site, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, The Tank, and 28th St. Theater.
Middle Child Dance camp will offer students a space to play, create, and deepen their relationships to their moving bodies! With equal parts emphasis on dance technique and the art of storytelling, students’ days will move between rigorous technique classes and imaginative composition activities. Dancers will be challenged to build worlds through collaborative and playful creative practices, explore movement styles such as partnering and floorwork, and will learn how to use their dance technique to further their story-telling skills. Throughout the week, dancers will also participate in open discussions with a rotation of NYC-based artists, giving them the chance to learn all they want to know about building careers in dance.
