Monique Haley, Associate Professor of Dance and African American & African Studies Western Michigan University, earned MFA at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Creator of the Diasporic Encounter Method (DEM)– a foundational teaching practice centering on African cultural values and cultivating ritual in jazz dance pedagogy. Published chapter, “Cultivating African Diasporic Ethos and Cultural Values in Contemporary Jazz Dance,” in the book Rooted Jazz Dance: Africanist Aesthetics and Equity in the 21st Century. 2022 summer faculty for American Dance Festival. NEA (2022, Soul Remedy, collaborating with Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, residing as the resident choreographer for the company. Choreographed for various concert dance companies and collegiate programs on the regional and national scales; is an Adult Artist Awardee (2021) for the black album. mixtape.
