ADF offers more classes, discussions, performances, and opportunities to create and perform than can be experienced in a single summer. Identify priorities for a rich and manageable program and allow the festival to serve that agenda.
Intensive Class Schedule
Full-time students choose three classes to attend Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for the four-week intensive. Part-time students choose one class to attend. Every Wednesday, Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday(also known as WFSS), there are drop-in classes, masterclasses with performing companies, and workshops that allow you to add complexity to your regular schedule and experience different teachers.
Additional opportunities:
- Participate in special repertory projects
- Lead your own rehearsals
- Engage in discussions and panels
- See showings and performances
Performing Opportunities
Footprints
Summer Dance Intensive full-time students have the opportunity to audition for ADF’s signature program, Footprints. Those chosen to perform in a Footprints piece will intensively study the work of an influential choreographer for the full 4-weeks and mimic the experience of working in a professional company environment. They will also perform on the main stage as a fully produced part of the ADF performance series during the last week of the festival.

Footprints Auditions
Applicants interested in auditioning for Footprints must upload audition materials in their online application by April 17 to be considered. Auditioning is optional and only available to full-time students.
About the Footprints Experience
Footprints is an opportunity for students to gain real-world intensive professional company experience. Footprints rehearsals are held Monday–Friday, 2:00–5:30 pm, with additional weekend rehearsals, costume fittings, and tech rehearsals as needed. Due to a full schedule, students participating in Footprints are limited in participation in drop-in classes and other performance opportunities at the festival. This is one of many possible experiences available to ADF students; we encourage students to consider and explore all options!
- Each Footprints work has individual requirements for audition materials, which are detailed in the online application.
- You can be considered for any Footprints piece, but you may only participate in ONE, if selected for multiple works.
- You will have the opportunity to rate your interest in the pieces you are auditioning for.
- If you are accepted into a Footprints piece and agree to participate, you must commit to attending all classes/rehearsals and participating in the cumulative performances.
How to Audition
- Complete your online application for the Summer Dance Intensive, pay the $60 nonrefundable application fee, and wait for your application to be accepted.
- Audition: Once accepted into the program, you will go through other application stages before auditioning, including scholarships, submitting a deposit, and class registration. Audition materials will be accessible in your online application in February.
